Jesus Time Begins

We had the story of Jesus Calms the Storm.
Here's our song....

Be still O Stormy Sea, be silent stormy sky
You're awesome as can be, but more marvelous am I
Be still all flesh before the Lord and know that I am God
And I will save you from the wind, and I will save you from the waves
I will be your peace and help you see
That you don't have to worry
I am here with you
Do not be afraid, believe in Me

Jesus Time Day - Be Still Oh Stormy Sea! Letter Ss

WOW! What a surprise! We came downstairs for Jesus Time and found Remy and Alex. She was training her dog. We sure had a good time learning about that!

start of ocean week fun

We are busy painting our mural which will be shared with the other 4 year old classes- Purple and Yellow! Mr. Sobkowiak was a very big help today. We had lots of fun painting with him. Thanks for helping today. Mr. S!

Our story was "The Rainbow Fish." The story goes like this...

The story follows the beautiful Rainbow Fish, who is covered in colorful shiny scales. Proud and vain, and bragging, (when I used the word bragging - Isa said - "that means He was cheering for himself and not others!" What a great way for children to understand bragging) he thinks he is better than all the other fish and will not play with them. When one small fish asks the Rainbow Fish for one of his scales, he rejects him. The other fish then refuse to talk to the Rainbow Fish at all, (that reminded us of Zaccheaus in the Bible - no one wanted to be his friend, until Jesus came into his life and taught him about real love) so the Rainbow Fish visits the wise female octopus for advice. (we thought that part was a little spooky, but good) The octopus advises him to give away his scales to the other fish.

When he encounters the small fish a second time, the Rainbow Fish gives him one of his precious scales, and is very soon surrounded by other fish requesting scales. Eventually, the Rainbow Fish has only one shiny scale left, but he is no longer vain. He spends his days playing happily with the other fish. (it's a good book to remind of sharing and being kind to others)

We talked about the ocean.

  • looked at the globe and saw more water than land
  • I drew a circle and cut it into 4ths
  • 1/4 would be land and 3/4 would be water
  • showed them on an abacus - if all the beads were like the earth...71 beads would be water and the rest would be land
  • a little abstract, but they got they idea of more and less, and lots more
  • we also talked about the ocean is salty
  • Lake Michigan and the other lakes are fresh water
  • I would be interested in any comments they brought home
  • We made some beautiful rainbow fish with watercolors and cra-pas (oil pastels)
We sang:
  • Down in the meadow in an itty bitty pool - ask the grandmas about that song.
  • Goliath
  • Wa Wa song
  • Love Letter
We danced:
  • Good Night Irene
  • The Irish Jig

We heard about and saw:
  • Haley's baptism photos
  • Natalie's owie from the water park slide
  • Ethan's reward from the dentist...no cavities! Go Ethan!
Other things went on also. Have to go and bake some bread yet this evening for our church Lenten dinners here in Munster. Hope you are reading this and that you are sharing it with your children. It will add lots of conversation about the day.

More fun to come!

Today at preschool- Qq and Rr Day

It's great to be back at preschool with your children and Mrs. Gruenwald. Florida was wonderful and being with our son Andrew and his wife was lots of fun. While you are with your children everyday when they are little it is extremely difficult to imagine being in their home someday and having them prepare things for you...and then with what seems as a blink of the eye, there you are. My dad would remind us when our children were little...he would say "when your children are 9 years old, that is half the time they will be with you. Eighteen years old is the usual age to leave home and go to college. Boy, nine years goes by so quickly! Enjoy these years, hang on to the memories...you are half through the nine. I am not telling you this to depress you or sadden you in any way....the fact is - time goes quickly! Enjoy the moments and thank God for giving them to you!

We had a lots going on at preschool today. We had a great Jesus Time just before we went into church and got our cross on our forehead, or hand, or a no thank you. Pastor James and Pastor Hudson blessed us. We sang, “Go Now in Peace” when we left.

The book I read at Jesus time was "God Cares When I'm Sorry." A little girl was offered two brownies, one for her and one for her sister. She made a bad choice. She took one for herself and then put the other in her pocket for later. See if your child can tell you about it. There were many feeling talked about ....sorry ...sad... guilty...the children were so with every word.

Then came the "I'm sorry" and forgiveness...along with a clean heart, joy and a happy heart. The Bible verse was John 1:9 ... If we confess our sins; He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I explained confess and they repeated my preschool version of it. If we confess out sins, God is faithful and will forgive our sins and make our hearts clean. It was a good time with the Yellow Class!

We then went downstairs and did an alphabet game. We pretended we were at Disneyworld on a ride and ran and wove in and out of the tables and chairs, always breaking up into a smaller group until we are all running on our own.

We heard David read us a story...Go Away Big Green Monster. Great job, David! Natalie also made up song at the beginning of class and sang it and then a poem at snack time. What a sweetie!

Horton Hatches the Egg was another story today...a story about morals and doing the right thing.

We ate yummy apples from Ethan today while I told them the story about the “Little Red House with No Doors and Windows and had a Star Inside! Whew! What a title!

I think I got a little long winded here. One more thing…Cathy Gruenwald needed to be in the Yellow Class this afternoon because Mrs. Walthius was ill. I missed having her with us today; she is such a great asset to the preschool and to our Blue Class. I think you know that, but I just wanted to mention it. Our staff at Immanuel is wonderful!

Thank you, Mrs. Strauch, for helping us today!

Another day tomorrow.

Sweet dreams! Say your prayers! Mrs. Stumpf
